A FOOTBALL club that was burgled twice within weeks is holding a music festival to raise funds for a new security system.

Thieves forced their way into Newton Aycliffe Football Club (NAFC), at Newton Aycliffe Sports Club at Moore Lane Park, last November and made off with cash, a computer and a plasma screen television.

About six weeks later, on January 6, the same portable cabins were ransacked but this time there was nothing for the intruders to steal but tea and Bovril.

Keen to prevent this from happening in the future, the club is staging a music festival from noon to 10.30pm on Sunday, May 4, to raise cash for monitored security cameras.

NAFC general manager, Dan Lewis, has teamed up with sports club secretary, Shaun Saunders, to organise the festival, which will feature ten bands and cover a large range of music genres, including blues, punk and rock.

Mr Saunders said: “I would say in the last few years we have spent a couple of thousands of pounds repairing damage and replacing stolen items.

"We don’t like to claim on the insurance as it puts the premium up. Hopefully, the festival will raise enough cash for us to improve our security and stop it happening again.”

Tickets for Party in the Park cost £10 and are available from the sports club bar on Moore Lane.
