EACH month, The Northern Echo highlights one of the many dogs looking for a home at the Dogs Trust, in Sadberge, near Darlington.

Lurcher Nelson is 16-months-old and is still looking for a permanent family home – much to the disbelief of staff and volunteers at the rehoming centre.

Nelson arrived at the centre in poor condition as a stray earlier this year and was found to be suffering from severe mange and sores, as well as being very underweight.

Despite losing the sight in one of his eyes, Nelson has otherwise been nursed back to full health and is ready to be rehomed.

A Dogs Trust spokeswoman said: “Nelson makes friends with everyone he meets and has been a favourite with our volunteer dog walkers.

“Since being at the centre Nelson has become an ambassador for Dogs Trust and has represented the centre and all his doggy chums at several local events.

“Nelson is looking for an active home, as he is a lively boy. He can live with another dog as he is very sociable but would be best not to live with small animals due to the nature of his breed.”

Staff at the centre believe Nelson could live with a family with children over ten-years-old. For more information on Nelson or any of the other dogs looking for a home call Dogs Trust Darlington on 01325-333114 or visit the centre between noon and 4pm each day, except Tuesdays.
