YOUNG rangers will be helping to keep the streets of Darlington safe next month.

School children have been invited to patrol the town centre alongside Distinct Darlington’s rangers.

Between Monday, June 15 and Friday, June 19 youngsters aged between seven and 11 will take to the streets and join the rangers in their fight to make Darlington town centre a better place.

As well as joining the town centre patrols, they will use radio communications, visit a CCTV centre, meet the police and learn more about environmental issues affecting Darlington.

Distinct Darlington’s manager Alex Hirst said: “This will be our third time we’ve invited school children to join our rangers and it’s always a great experience for everyone involved.

“Not only do the children learn all sorts of skills but they also learn more about their town centre in an exciting way.”

As a memento of their time as a ranger each child will be presented with a photograph, cap and certificate naming them honoury members of the team.
