DARLINGTON traders have joined forces to create an advent calendar offering shoppers a new offer each day before Christmas.

Distinct Darlington has spearheaded the initiative and the calendar will go up on December 1 at Northumberland Street, with each window concealing a prize to be redeemed or spent at a town centre business.

These will include ‘buy one get one free’ offers, discounts and special deals – available for one day only.

Alex Hirst of Distinct Darlington said: “It’s the town centre’s way of thanking all their customers and visitors in the run-up to Christmas.

“Darlington really comes into its own at Christmas and this year we hope there are more reasons to visit than ever before.”

Residents are also reminded that the Christmas season kicks-off in the town centre on Thursday night (November 26) with the switching on of the Christmas lights at 6.30pm by X Factor star Katie Coleman, preceded by entertainment from 5pm.

Traders from the popular Sunday People’s Market will also be showcasing their wares from stalls at High Row.

This Sunday (November 29), will see the popular reindeer parade travel round the town centre from 11am, while on the following Saturday, December 5, Bondgate will be transformed into an alpine village.

Four gazebos will be hosting a variety of Christmas activities, such as creating Christmas decorations and wreaths and the opportunity to write letters to Santa.
