NOMINATIONS have opened for this year’s Best of Darlington awards.

The awards are an annual event run by the One Darlington community organisation to celebrate local achievements.

They are open to all Darlington residents, students of all ages and people who work in the borough.

This year there are 14 categories including Volunteer of the Year, Contribution to the Community, Contribution to the Environment and Bringing Business Success to Darlington.

There are also categories which celebrate student, artistic and sporting achievements.

Two new categories will be featured this year.

The Most Ingenious award will be given to the individual, group or business who has solved a problem in a way that was creative, inventive or clever.

The Public Service Hero award will be given to an individual or individuals who have displayed extraordinary commitment to public duty.

It is the 11th year the awards have been running.

Last year’s awards, held at Darlington College, attracted over 100 nominations across 12 categories.

They can also be made in person at the Darlington Town Hall Customer Contact Centre.

Anyone making a nomination is asked to include as much information as possible.
