A North East pub manager is set to make an appearance on a big-money Channel 4 game show this week, with £1m potentially up for grabs.

Toni Curry, 32, from Stainton near Middlesbrough, will appear on Channel 4’s Moneybags this week, hosted by Craig Charles.

The popular show sees contestants trying to win a fortune by grabbing money as it comes along a conveyor belt, with £1m passing down it every week.

Toni says she would love to go travelling in South America and Australia if she’s lucky enough to win.

The pub manager said: “I've always loved the show (Moneybags) and when I saw they were looking for contestants I jumped at the chance to apply. I've never done a quiz show before, although I did appear on a phone in to The Big Breakfast.

“It was amazing, the crew behind the scenes were all fantastic, it was a great experience.

“Craig was hilarious, he's such a down to earth, real person who took the time out to listen to us all, have a laugh with us all. I've knew Craig from Red Dwarf days, but in recent years I'd watched him DJ many times in Middlesbrough and Glastonbury.”

Toni, who has worked in pubs since the age of 18, also performs as a fire-dancer and fire-eater at events, despite saying she had a huge fear of fire growing up.

Contestants on the show have answer questions by grabbing the moneybag with the correct answer on as it passes along a conveyor belt in front of them.

Those who grab the right answer earn that bag’s value, which can be anything from £1,000 to £100,000, but if they pick up the wrong bag they risk losing everything.

Moneybags airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 5pm.
