An award-winning North East chippy is hoping to pick up another gong after being shortlisted as one of the country’s top 20 takeaways.

The Fisherman’s Bay fish and chip shop in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, has been named as a finalist in the Top 20 Takeaways of the year at the National Fish and Chip Awards.

The sea-view restaurant and takeaway is the only takeaway in the whole of the North East to have reached shortlist.

Now the owners of the Fisherman’s Bay will find out if they’ve won at the National Fish and Chip Awards in London, in February next year.

The event, hosted by the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), will be held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on February 28, 2023.

Commenting on the news, Andrew Crook, President at the NFFF, comments “We received such a high standard of applications this year, for this category in particular, making it a very difficult yet rewarding judging process!

It also received the prize for Best British Restaurant in the 2022 International Dining Awards, being named among top restaurants from across the world.
