Despite only opening four months ago, one well-loved Durham restaurant has deservedly been recognised by the Michelin guide - and you can try a three-course menu for only £20.

Coarse, located on Durham's North Road, only opened in September, but has been delighting palates and garnering die-hard fans ever since.

For those who have tasted the eatery's offerings, its commendation by the Michelin guide comes as no surprise - Coarse has cornered the market with its tasting menu of local and seasonal dishes.

With Durham's Restaurant Week just around the corner, you can sample Coarse's seasonal specialities for yourself and at a cut price.

From Saturday, January 28 to Friday, February 4, Coarse will be offering a multi-course tasting menu for only £20.

Their restaurant week lunch offer includes three courses and a snack, and a glass of cava (or alternative non-alcoholic beverage).

About the fine-dining entrant, the Michelin guide wrote: "Hidden away in a small courtyard in the centre of Durham, this warm, cheerily run restaurant is the realisation of a dream for the three friends who crowdfunded its opening.

"The simple, rustic décor belies the quality of the cooking found within; the set menu of modern British small plates changes seasonally and the kitchen’s skill is clearly evident in the quality of the sauces."

Announcing their accolade on Facebook, the owners of Coarse wrote: "We had been open seven weeks, serving our first ever tasting menu when we spotted a tweet from the Michelin guide mentioning us.

"Amazing, we thought. But surely we wouldn't make the guide so early on. Well, we were (gladly) wrong.

"Look mam, we made it. Thank you to everyone that has, and continues to, support us."
