With temperatures reaching below freezing and reports of snow on the horizon, many are eager to learn when the first snowflake will hit the ground.
The Met Office have predicted temperatures could fall as low as -3 C this week, with snow expected to reach the North East and North Yorkshire by tomorrow (January 16) morning.
Middleton-in-Teesdale can expect the first snowfall in the region at around 11am on Tuesday, while the wintry conditions are slated to reach Stanhope by 12:15pm.
Barnard Castle residents can expect to see some hail at around 1:30pm as the harsh conditions make their way further east, and Consett will be met with snow at around the same time according to the Met Office.
The weather will relent for Middleton-in-Teesdale at around 4pm as it drifts south and the area is left with the odd shower, though it will serve as a brief reprieve as it is set to make its return at around midnight.
At around 11:30am, Bishop Auckland and its surrounding areas can expect a fleeting snow shower, while many of the previously mentioned locations will continue to experience snow, rain and hail.
Northallerton will see snow overnight as the weather makes its way eastwards, while Hartlepool and Middlesbrough can expect to see the wintry conditions between 6:45am and 7:30am on Wednesday (January 17) as it makes its way south.
