Tow Law’s hopes of a place in the league cup final were dashed by two late goals against Ashington in their quarter final last night.

Ashington took the lead after 25 minutes through Glen Taylor, who was left unmarked to head in a left wing corner, but Lawyers equalised five minutes after half time through Dean Thexton after Ashington failed to get a corner away.

But with just one minute left, a shot by Kyle Oliver deceived Lawyers keeper Stephen Robinson and went in the net. And in stoppage time, David Carson was brought down, and he scored from the spot.

Ashington now face Marske in the semi final on Monday afternoon.

Celtic Nation are back on top of the ENL first division thanks to a 3-0 away win at Whitley Bay.

Nation took the lead after 14 minutes with a 25 yarder by Willie Gibson that took a deflection on its way into the net, then Gibson scored the second from the spot after a handball offence. He completed his hat trick from a free kick.

Durham City won their first game under manager Ian Chandler when they won 3-0 at Billingham Town. Scott Fenwick gave City the lead just on half time from the penalty spot, and then he burst away and scored the second on 65 minutes. Ryan McGorrigan fired the third near the end.

Sunderland RCA lost 5-1 at Penrith. The RCA took an 8th minute lead at Penrith through Kyle Morris, but soon after RCA defender Ian McAvoy put through his own goal. Ryan Hall headed Penrith into the lead on 38 minutes . Stephen Rigg, Martyn Coleman and Cameron Wilson then added goals in quick succession in the second half Consett scored three times in six minutes to beat Hebburn 3-0 at belle View.

It took Consett over 70 minutes to break the deadlock, when Michael Mackay fired home his 32nd league goal of the season, then Scott Canham quickly added the second. Mackay scored the third with a left foot shot, and then hit the post from the penalty spot.

In the second division, Heaton Stannington striker Jonathan Wright has now scored 37 goals for the season after he scored both goals in their 2-0 win over South Shields. He scored both his goals in the first half, one of them from the penalty spot.

Brandon are still looking anxiously over their shoulders at the relegation zone after they were beaten 4-1 at Whickham.

Bottom club Ryton and Crawcrook gained a point from a 1-1 draw at Chester-le-Street, which means that Brandon need one win from three games to make sure they don’t finish bottom. However, Ryton were in the lead at one point.

Washington are now up to ninth after they won 3-2 at Darlington RA.
