NEWCASTLE Falcons have allowed Tom Catterick to join Blaydon on loan and he will appear at full back in today's National One match at home to Cinderford.

Despite scoring the try which ended the Falcons' 20-match run without a win last month, 24-year-old Catterick is no nearer to nailing down a regular place.

After captaining the team in the Premiership Sevens at The Northern Echo Arena in August, the Darlington-born player went on to play for the England Sevens team.

But after vying with fellow Barnard Castle School product Alex Tait for the No 15 shirt, he has also seen Simon Hammersley stake a strong claim.

With regular full back Nathan Bailey ruled out for several weeks, Phil Stewart performed creditably last week until he had to be helped off after a severe blow to the head. He will be sidelined for three weeks.

Flanker Harry Bate returns, but his deputy Matthew Jenkinson has impressed sufficiently to retain his place, so skipper Keith Laughlin moves up to the second row in place of Shaun English.

Prop Robbie Kalbraier is rested because of a back problem and Matt Hall is unavailable, so Trevor Davison and Victor Guignouard return.

Tynedale have first choice hooker David Nelson back from Falcons duty for the trip to leaders Ealing. They have trained on the Kingston Park pitch in readiness for the Trailfinders' synthetic surface.

Darlington Mowden Park are still without goal-kicker Garry Law and prop Matt Shields for the club's first visit to once-mighty Coventry, but Zylon McGaffin is still available.

Henry Robinson switches to the wing to give Worcester Academy product Joe Nellany an outing in his preferred position of full back.

"We want to see how Joe performs there," said coach John Newton. "He has very good footwork and could be dangerous on the counter-attack.

"We want to see our wingers coming inside and looking for the ball, which Henry will do. He's a quality player and will slot in at full back if necessary.

"We have a lot of good players and we have to use them. We have done our homework n Coventry and it's a question of picking the right squad for the right game."

After starting on the wing last week, Callum Mackenzie reverts to the back row with George Hedgley moving up to lock. He has been named in the Scotland Under 20 squad for a three-day camp next week, which will culminate in training with the full national squad.

Hedgley will hope to make the team to play at The Northern Echo Arena on March 13 against England Under 20s, who are likely to include prop Paul Hill.

After starring as a replacement for Mowden last week, Hill is required by Yorkshire Carnegie today so Simon Ozugwe is on the bench, along with back row man Joe Maud, who is impressing on his return from a lengthy absence with an ankle injury.

Another big, mobile forward who has yet to feature, Ben Gledhill, is due to make his comeback after injury in today's Durham Second Teams Cup tie at home to Stockton, if it goes ahead. Wingers Tom Kill and Chris McTurk will also feature.

Westoe, next to the bottom in National Three North, need to win at home to the team just above them, Wirral, while Billingham entertain Rossendale.

West Hartlepool recall Ian Pinchen and Luke Mallinson for the trip to third-placed Pocklington in North One East, but Liam Bailey and Scott Butcher are injured.

Middlesbrough have Aeden Moloney on the wing, with Jack Bircham at full back and Connor Foley at scrum half, for the Yorkshire One match at Selby.

After beating Durham and Northumberland One leaders Morpeth, Stockton name an unchanged pack for the trip to Novos. Chris Farrell and Matty Oates replace unavailable backs Ritchie Brown and Matty Oates.

Last week's rest has enabled Guisborough to get some key players fit for the visit of Darlington, who have struggled on their travels.
